Flag facts: the meaning hidden in a piece of cloth
My parents (especially my father), my teachers and a handful of my friends helped me a lot to learn properly about the flags and the meaning hidden in those pieces of clothes which I once considered to be items of fancy!
I was wrong! I must say that Melanie who was my classmate since class 6 had always been a true friend and she would always know by looking at me that I was in trouble or I was in dire need of something- some answer! It was one such evening when I was quite disturbed with my history homework.
She understood that there was something wrong and when she asked, I said that I was unable to pen down some flag facts which was the part of the history homework that we were supposed to submit the next day. She smiled and offered her homework copy to me. She also sat down beside me and said, ‘Flags of different nations differ and that they have some unique meaning attached to them. However, they do have some common meaning.’
I was surprised to know that she was very well prepared and knew a lot more than me. She continued and said that irrespective of the country, a flag symbolizes the esteem and the pride of a country. It stands to signify the belief of the country men that the country will use all its power to protect them and defend their rights under any situation!
She said that the flag embodies in itself the feeling of patriotism and the sense of freedom that people of a country have in their mind. The flag is nothing but a symbol of the struggles and the sufferings that people faced in order to earn their freedom.
The information she gave on flag facts was fabulous and I did not only use it to answer the questions in my history homework but also took it as a lesson for life.
